I’ve been a little blue crazy recently—I love this dark blue-grey color, to be specific Payne’s grey!
One of my favorite blue pieces which I painted this year is ‘The Lady in Blue’, based upon Claude Monet’s masterpiece ‘Woman with a parasol’ (oil on canvas, 1875). I love the brush strokes and subtle color use of this French Impressionist painter (1840-1926).
- Woman with a parasol (oil on canvas, 1875), Claude Monet
- Lady in Blue (watercolor, 2016), Simone Li
What I like about Monet’s painting is the serene and mysterious appearance of the ‘Woman with a parasol’, the raised position of the woman standing on top of the hill, the way the wind is swirling around her face and skirt, and the little boy with hat, who is standing formally next to her.
More blue and other artwork will follow soon… stay tuned!
