I’m proud to be one of the 20 artists who have made a design for the cover of a handmade sketchbook for the annual fundraiser event: POP-UP! An evening of live stories of ARTS by the People. All 20 books will be on display at the silent auction in Madison on April 30th, 2016.
I feel connected to the mission statement of this non-profit organization. Visit the website of ARTS by the People for more information about this organization and this event.

Back to painting! All artists are free to choose their own medium and subject. Although I like to work with different kind of mediums, watercolor is still one of my favorites. It has an unpredictable and dynamic character. I love the interaction of paint and water—you never really know exactly what is going to happen on the paper!

I hope you enjoyed my visualizations of the ballerinas. I like to work more loosely and expressively—it gives the viewer the opportunity to experience my work in their own way! I always appreciate getting feedback; it helps me to grow in my art. Feel welcome to share your thoughts! Here are some comments I’ve already received:
- “A human being with wings”
- “Ballerina with tulle skirt”
- “An insect”
- “Ballerina!”
- “Dancer”
- “A woman? Sorry, I don’t know exactly what I see, but I like it!”
I see a tornado and a tree!My daughter (5)
I love this comment from my daughter! I was so proud that she said tornado because what she did feel was the (ballerina’s) motion in the painting.

Lovely idea for the book covers! And a worthy organization too, I am certain.
Thanks Donna and Monique!
