This month is such a special one. Exactly one year ago, I started with painting classes at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, and for me, that moment marks the beginning of a creative turn in my life. Although, I had taken some painting classes in the Netherlands, it was only after my move to the US that I could wholly explore my interest in art and could work out my ideas I already have had for years. I jumped at it and here I am, a blogger, living my dream, dabbling in paints and growing my art.
It was a year full of challenges and new experiences: building my own website, starting my own blog and painting my own art. And I’m still growing my art, because I started with a new challenge yesterday—painting in oils. So here it is… my first oil painting!
Another reason this is such a special month for me…
My classes at the Visual Arts Center are given by Anne Kullaf—she is a great artist and I love to watch her paint. A few months ago she came up with a great idea for an exhibit with the title “Eight is Enough”. All her students had the opportunity to submit one painting for this exhibit and so I did… Every student was free to choose their own medium. The only restrictions were the size of the paper (8×8 inch) and a limited color palette of eight colors: burnt sienna, Prussian blue, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, cadmium red light, yellow ochre, cadmium yellow light and titanium white. I submitted the watercolor piece on top of this blog, named “Garden with Flowers”. It’s the first time I’ve participate in an exhibition and it’s an honor to have my piece shown in such a great art center.
The opening reception will be held on September 20th from 2 pm – 4pm. The exhibition is going to be great; almost 70 students are taking part in this exhibit. Hope to see you there!
