Cherry Blossoms in Pastel

I made this painting during my pastel class today. It is always very inspiring to see the demo of my teacher first.

For this subject I toned my white watercolor sheet in a middle dark brown color. Because I made my underpainting on a dark sheet I used yellow ochre/ raw sienna for my underpainting. In my underpainting I blocked in the lighter areas of my composition. After that I used al lot of other colors. The fun thing about pastels is to experiment with the colors that you have in your box. But it’s also a challenge not to overwork your painting by using too much colors. Choosing your colorpalet before you start with the painting can be very helpful!
